Franklin Parker Preserve Database (ANSP-ENT-FPP)

In December 2003, a former cranberry farm located in the New Jersey Pine Barrens was claimed by the New Jersey Conservation Foundation to be protected as a nature preserve. The new Franklin Parker Preserve is adjacent to several state forests and contains nearly 5,000 acres of wetlands and 4,400 acres of upland pine/oak forests. Parker continues to be maintained by the New Jersey Conservation Foundation.

As an ecological treasure, the preserve is home to several threatened species and 29 rare plant species. As a result of the uniqueness of this habitat, many charismatic, rare and native insect species reside in the many diverse ecosystems present. The inventory of insects in the preserve was initiated by Howard Boyd and arose from a commitment by AES and the Entomology Department at The Academy of Natural Sciences.
